Rustic Barn Wedding Inspiration

Need a little inspiration for your rustic barn wedding?

Our latest adventure took us to the Great Barn . Tucked away in Ruislip, West London, stands a magnificent venue you would never know was there. We had the pleasure of designing and decorating the space for two sweethearts who were having the ceremony and celebration inside the barn. They wanted a rustic barn wedding and we had just the answer.

Welcome the decor…

Guests were welcomed to the venue with a floral fairy lit ladder, set infront of a  backdrop of hanging jars full of baby buds of gypsophila and LED candles.

One half of the rustic barn we set up for the ceremony using our lace and hessian chair ties. We created eight trees sprinkled with a frosting of fairy lights pinned to each of the beams of the barn. Overlooking the vows from up high were white lanterns strung across the beams.

As the bride entered the aisle she was greeted by an uber cute personalised chalk board and two picket fences. Our hessian fairy lit heart was at the focal point at the front of the aisle with vintage sacks and buckets lining the registry table. Each chair down the aisle also had a stem of gypsophila poking its head out of the chair tie.

Fast forward to the celebration, afternoon tea was organised for each of the guests. Tables had a log, vase of gyp and numbers in the centre. Our personalised signpost proudly overlooked the party pointing to the four main facilities.

It was such a pleasure to put together all the pretty bits and pieces for the lovely couple. We were over the moon to hear they had a fabulous day surrounded by bespoke rustic barn wedding delicious-ness.

Anniversary Gift Idea – Spooning Since…

Looking for an anniversary gift idea? This creative make could be the one.

I created this fancy number to give to the husband as my 2nd wedding anniversary gift. I secretly knew I would appreciate this much more than he would, I also knew my hallway would look that lil’ bit cuter coz of it too! The husband of course is blissfully unaware of my crafty tactics!

Traditionally, 2nd anniversary is cotton, so I wanted to incorporate cotton fabric in there some how and came up with this…

I bought an ikea box frame (£3.50 in white or black), and got 2 spoons personalised by ‘Washed Up Wood’, they can engrave anything you like onto a spoon! Covered the backing of the frame with fabric and held it in place using super glue on the back of the board.

I tied the spoons together using coloured string and then tied this string around the board and made a knot at the back. It held in place naturally due to the tightness of the knot at the back, so no need for glue here.

I attached a flower to cover the knot on the front of the spoons and placed this into the box frame.

Et voila! The perfect anniversary gift idea!

Decorate your home with a wine themed DIY make

Do you like decorating your home with handmade goodies? This is a creative make for any wine loving enthusiasts.

I had one of those decisions to make last week; to finish some of the crafty projects I’ve already begun or make that list longer and start a new one… I chose the latter. It’s just too exciting to start something new.

I kept all the corks from our wedding day and they have been sitting on a shelf waiting for me to pick them up and begin this project, poor things. I knew one day I would want to construct the first letter of our family name, and that day had arrived and I had my glue gun at the ready!

I got the letter ‘A’ cut out of MDF by a timber shop. You can order letters online too pretty cheap and you can choose from loadsa fonts. Then you get glue gun happy! Start covering the wood in glue and sticking each cork down. Most corks have a pattern on one end, I chose to have these facing out and I’m super pleased with the outcome.

My house is slowly becoming a haven of handmade delights! My poor husband!

A great gift idea for families

This gift idea for families is a thoughtful handmade touch great for Christmas or new baby announcements.

This great prezzie is a personalised frame filled with all their names scrabble style!

gift idea for families

Firstly draw out your design on paper to check all the families names link up and then buy all the letters you need. My trusty friend eBay has many sellers with wooden scrabble letters available either as single letters to buy, or a full scrabble board’s worth.

Next choose a decorative sheet of paper for the background of your design and cut out the desired shape for your frame.

I bought a selection of box frames from ikea, they have various sizes in either white or black very reasonably priced too! If your a crafter, it might be worth buying a few of these as they are great for displaying your work of art!

Place all of your letters on the decorative paper in the design you’d like it. Make sure everything’s straight and parallel to the edge of the decorative paper as it would look bent when displayed in the frame. Using superglue, glue each piece down with a little glue along the edge of any letter touching another letter.

Wait for it to dry and insert into your box frame et voila!

A rustic wedding in a tipi

If you’re planning a rustic wedding, check out this wedding we decorated.

rustic wedding in a tipi

We recently had the privilege of providing props for a tipi rustic wedding – a first for us… I can happily confirm that tipis are defo a great option for weddings! We worked with the lovely bride, Rebecca, to create a few bespoke pieces especially for her (and the hubby of course)

As you entered the tipi we created a personalised seating plan named ‘Where in the world are you sitting’. All tables were named cities that the bride and groom had been to. Great for a couple who have experienced the travel bug! We loved doing this and will be making this as a special bundle for more brides.

Inside the tipi we hung our fairy lit hessian heart behind the top table, making it obvious where the focus was in the room. Rebecca’s family had crocheted Mr and Mrs bunting which we tied across the front of it.

The bride and groom had a table especially for photos of their parents’ and grandparents’ wedding pictures, we used our scroll frames and jars to decorate here.

Our drinks dispensers and crates came out to play with our personalised drinks labels.

At the end of the evening they had fireworks and sparklers so they purchased our sparkler bundle adding a personalised touch to another table with the chalkboard we designed for them.

When we were there we spotted a few cute looking props the bride and groom organised themselves, my favourite was the old school milk bottles used as centre pieces.

One Stunning Vintage Barn Wedding

A barn wedding is always such a privilege to decorate. Most of the time, the barns are so magnificent, it doesn’t need a lot to impress your guests! I love the look of the brown wood against the lace and white fabrics of the table cloths.

We recently helped the lovely Nicky & Oliver with their beautiful barn wedding. The venue looked stunning, we loved all of their great ideas they chose – my favourite was their table numbers.

Our hessian chair tie backs all behaved themselves adding a touch of vintage to the room. Take a look through some of the photos we shot.

Capturing your travel memories

If you love travelling this one’s for you – a crafty way to capture all the holidays you’ve treated yourself to in a glance!

20140404-083650.jpg

I bought a cheapy canvas and covered it in a shabby wallpaper to give it the effect of a wooden fence post.

20140404-084413.jpg

I then sourced a cork map of the world, (all purchases via eBay!) it comes with one side covered in adhesive so I literally just stuck it onto the wallpaper. I thought the red and white parcel string would work well for this project and tied a tight knot around each aeroplane pin then pinned them into all the destinations we’d been to.

20140404-083609.jpg

Next print out your fav picture from each holiday, something that represents all the shenanigans you got up to! Then use my trusty lil friend (who never ceases to amaze me – super glue) and stick everything in place (string and photos).

I’ve been wanting to make this project for a while now, and I’m very proud it’s finally complete and hanging in our lounge (husband probably not so much!)

This idea could be used though for other projects, there could be a country you just keep going back for more to, or a road trip around America. You needn’t buy the whole world map just the country/continent that you prefer 🙂

Happy crafting!

A Beautiful Navy Wedding Adventure

If you love a navy wedding theme this one’s for you!

We had the opportunity to let our creative juices go to town by providing some handmade bespoke props for a beautiful wedding held in West London which had a navy wedding theme.

We both had a great time cutting, sticking and sewing, getting all the different props ready for Saturday morning. Then when everything was in place, we stopped, we looked around and I’m sure my hearty did a backflip with excitement – it looked beautiful.

We had our homemade picket fences standing proud at the front of the venue with a personalised chalk board – these always help add that bespoke feel to any event.

Look what I saw…

I couldn’t believe my peepers, I was reading a wedding magazine, just casually browsing, turned the page to see an advert for a product I made last year which I blogged back in the summer!

Anyone remember the frame I made for one of my besties who’s a teacher? I framed the first letter of her surname which i made out of crayola crayons.

Well this company in the magazine was selling them for £60! Ker-razy!

A Way To Display Your Christmas Crackers

Take a look at this way to display your Christmas crackers.

Use a prop to help decorate the top of your table this Christmas.

We love the look of filling a picnic hamper with crackers and wedging it open with a small rustic stick.

If you don’t have a picnic basket, you could use a basket, vintage suitcase, a fish bowl this list goes on… experiment this Christmas and give it a go.

Candy cane name cards

Decorate the table this Christmas with candy canes! An edible informative sign which can’t be a bad thing!

Stick three candy canes together with cello-tape, so the curved canes are all going out at different angles. Next add some pretty lace or ribbon and tie a bow on top of the cello-tape.

I designed on Microsoft Word a sheet of text boxes which I filled red, and gave a green dashed border. I downloaded the vintage font ‘Romantiques’ from dafont.com (for free may I add!) and typed the names I needed.

You can either use them for name places for people or dish names.

Yummy, cute and Christmassy!

Gift idea time – skittle flavoured vodka!

Here’s a gift I’ve made for a few of the ladies in my life! Skittle flavoured vodka!

I bought a few 250ml Kilner clip top bottles, filled them with vodka and popped in about 20 of their favourite coloured skittle. It’s best to stick to one colour of skittle type in each bottle as it could look quite mucky in colour if you went for the fruit salad option!

Leave them to stand for about 3 days, and by the power of magic the skittles disappear! You’ll need to filter them a few times though to drain away some of the sugary sediment left at the bottom of the bottle. To do this, either grab some muslin and pour the vodka over it into another container, or a paper coffee filter works well. When you’re done, pour the magic juice back into your bottles and design a tag to go around the neck.

I wrote some serving suggestions of ways best to enjoy – with lemonade and ice or neat on the rocks!

Great prezzy for alcohol drinking chummys – it taste delicious and is handmade with lurrrrve 🙂

Personalised hessian bunting

We had a busy weekend designing the beginning of our personalised bunting range. I always loved the thought of turning hessian into bunting, it’s such a vintage look.

We’re taking orders for weddings and events, available to purchase or if you’re trying to save pennies why not hire?! Message us for deets!

Little note for all you crafty readers – if you’re making yourself, be careful not to buy the cheapest hessian available (as tempting as it sounds) this tends to fray just by looking at it. Try to choose hessian which has been woven quite tight – it will make it easier to sew.

Will you be my bridesmaid??

It was my 6 month wedding anniversary this week… on top of reminiscing about the lovey slushy stuff…. I was taken back to the moment when I asked the girls if they fancied a mission…. ‘Will you be my bridesmaid?!’

Being the creative soul that I am, this question involved some scissors, decorative paper and sweeeeets!

As the plan in my head was for each bridesmaid to wear a different coloured shoe, I made them each a sweetie bouquet representing that colour. I added to this a paper chain of 5 girls so each one would know who the others were. And popped each gift in a bag which had the ultimate question on the front!

I can happily say they all said yes 🙂

Love heart garland

Hearty’s doing somersaults right now! Loving our new Love Heart Garland 🙂

We bought a variety of material, cut out heart shapes, sewed around the edge, leaving a 2cm gap at the top and filled with stuffing. Embroidered the gap closed and used parcel string to sew them to thicker parcel string to hang them up. Super simple!

It’s very happy right now in front of the fire place making itself very comfy in its new home! We’ll be making these available to hire, they’re a great equivalent to bunting!

Shabby chic dresser makeover

I’m not sure how I inherited such a ghastly and boring piece of furniture but I know a lil’ bitta’ love and care usually leads to miracles 🙂 So I researched around on google for the type of shabby look I wanted and then it happened… I turned my garden into a painters nightmare… Paint pots, lids, brushes, and sandpaper scattered about with paint footprints following me everywhere where I went?!

To start I sanded down the areas I wanted to cover and painted my lil’ hearty out. Rather impatiently I applied two more coats and left to dry 🙂

20130902-184244.jpg

I then saw on eBay 6 beauties! Cute little drawer knobs all waiting to come tumbling through my letterbox one by one 🙂

Postman scores again!

I haven’t been this happy to be woken up early on a Saturday morning by the door bell… I raced downstairs and slightly overwhelmed the postman with the sight which greeted him… Bed hair, no make up and rather excitable in nature! There was no way I would miss him! He handed over the goods and off he toddled.

Eeeeek a bundle of material we bought for a future project has arrived safely and is currently sprawled out over the table. The weekend has begun!

Stay tuned peeps! 🙂
